Personality:
At his heart, Steve Rogers is a man of principals. He holds very strong beliefs about what is right and wrong and he's willing to fight for that with everything he has and more. Even before he went through Project Rebirth and his body was transformed into the physique of Captain America, Steve wasn't afraid to stand up to men much stronger and larger than he was. He'd been small and frail and he'd been unafraid to tell someone off for being disrespectful. He even speaks to how much he hates bullies. Even when he still was a small guy, he always believed in standing up for the metaphorical little guy or anyone else who seemed to be a target that couldn't stand up for themselves. This is something that carries through for him after Project Rebirth, too. Not only is this part of why he'd wanted to join the army so much in the first place, but even after he wakes up in the 21st century, he continues to take this stance and it's a factor when he refuses to sign the Sokovia Accords and stands up for Bucky that goes beyond their friendship.
It's these strongly held beliefs that make Steve so desperate to join the army so that he can help the war effort against the Nazis during World War 2. He feels that it's his duty to help the effort and not in any way that keeps him safely on American soil. He refuses to see himself as less capable or as someone that would need protecting, even though attitudes at the time would have been even more stacked against him than they would be today. Despite his health and lack of physical ability, he's determined to enlist, going so far as to break the law in his attempts. This is what gets him selected for Project Rebirth. This is also not the only time he breaks the law or ignores orders that he feels are wrong. Any law that supports something he views as unjust isn't a law worth upholding in his eyes. This also ties into his refusal to sign the Sokovia Accords.
He's a loyal man, both to ideals and the people he cares about. It's difficult for him when these loyalties are tested against each other, but in the case of being forced to choose between helping Bucky or signing the Accords, the decision hadn't only been about Steve choosing his oldest friend over Tony. While not unbiased, Steve had seen the situation for what it had been. Bucky can't be held responsible for his actions carried out under the control of HYDRA in Steve's eyes any more than anyone else could be and he would have gone to bat for anyone he saw as being framed or taken advantage of or unjustly accused of crimes. This fact doesn't make the situation any less personal for Steve, though, and the loyalty he feels for Bucky is most certainly a large factor. He woke up in the 21st century having just lost his best friend and it's not a loss he'd ever managed to process in a healthy way. It's not easy for him to fight Tony and the other Avengers who signed the Accords, but he feels very strongly that it's the right thing to do.
Through all the loss and heartache Steve has suffered, all the bullying and the poor health of his youth, Steve has never allowed himself to become jaded. Idealism is alive in him, though it doesn't make him unrealistic. He isn't naive, but he does try to see the best in people and he doesn't give up easily. There's a sense of optimism to him, even if it's sometimes tempered with some realism. He's a stark contrast to many of the people around him who have become jaded in their view of others or even themselves. Steve has to believe that the world is always worth saving and that the right thing is always worth doing.
Steve is a brave man. He doesn't live without fear, but he also doesn't let it slow him down. As a small, young man he has no problem speaking his mind at personal risk to his safety and gaining better health and a good deal of muscle mass doesn't slow him down on that. He goes to Azzano to save the 107th by himself knowing how dangerous it is and even after the fact, he carries on as Captain America through the rest of the war, unflinching in the face of dangers not because he couldn't see the risks, but because the risks were worth it.
Something that goes hand-in-hand with his bravery is his stubborn streak. He doesn't back down, especially when he thinks his actions are the right thing to do. He has a righteous streak that fuels him. It's not without ego that he sees himself as a good man. While he is humble about who he is, he is not humble about his opinions, especially not on the topic of right vs. wrong.
He is an honest man to the core and has a hard time lying, even when it's necessary. Undercover or spycraft work is something he usually needs help with and can't handle very well on his own and while he doesn't judge others for lying when it's necessary, it's not very true to who he is and that causes him to get tripped up by any attempts at it. Honesty is something he values greatly, both in himself and others, and it hurts him in a personal way to be lied to or deceived, especially by people he had expected more honesty from or who he'd thought he'd earned the trust of. The times when he has to lie or keep secrets from those people are also very difficult for him, but he's capable of making the call to do it if he really thinks he should, like in the instance of Steve sitting on the fact that Bucky had killed Tony's parents for two years. Presumably only Natasha knew before that, because she is the one who gets Steve the file with all of the information about Bucky in it.
Steve is self-sacrificing to a fault. At times, it's as if he's looking for ways to die for the right cause. At first, he simply seems brave or determined, but it's after he watches Bucky fall from the train and believes his best friend is truly lost that Steve starts to take bigger risks. He flies a plane into the ocean to save people, prepared for his own death and when he's defrosted decades later, the loss and so much new loss is fresh in his mind. He jumps into his work with the Avengers and SHIELD with reckless abandon, fighting aliens, jumping out of planes without parachutes and generally fighting in a way that shows complete disregard for himself and at times as if he is looking for a way to make death stick or looking for something worth dying for.
Integration Questions
how will your character handle being assigned a leadership role: Very well! Steve was the leader of the Howling Commandos during World War 2 and he holds many leadership roles once he's defrosted, as well. He's very comfortable with being responsible for others and making tough decisions when he needs to. In fact, it's a natural state for him and a part of him revels in taking on tough responsibilities, which he often sees as his duty.
how will your character handle being assigned an antagonist role: Steve is not a particularly skilled liar or actor, though he can muddle through it when he has to. He would be very uncomfortable with the idea of wronging people and he would outright refuse to hurt anyone, even if his own safety was at stake, however if he believed that something worse would happen if he didn't act, he would do what he had to. He would have to feel as if he were out of options in order to truly hurt anyone.
how will your character handle the implication that they’re not real / are a clone: He will not believe this until he is given undeniable proof. This is both because it's incredibly far-fetched when he feels like he's Steve Rogers and because Steve is an incredibly stubborn person who believes what he wants to believe.
Powers
Powers / Enhancements:
Super Soldier Serum: He heals faster than a normal human, though not instantaneously, and he has a higher endurance for taking damage before it becomes fatal. His body is also more resistant to the damage it takes. The serum works his body and metabolism to its extreme peak, allowing him to maintain a lot of muscle mass. This also allows for him to be extremely fast and agile along with the extreme strength. None of these abilities are at a cosmic far-beyond-human level, but they are extremely impressive for a human range of ability, seemingly beyond the range of normal human capability, but only by a little bit. He is still very much human in the way his body functions and his bodily needs, even if many of those needs are slightly lessened. There is simply an extra level to his physical abilities such that he is at an 11/10 on human physical capability. It is likely that he is immune to most lesser diseases. Likely due to the enhanced metabolism, it would be very difficult for him to be drunk or drugged by a normal dose that would affect humans.
Nerf Details:
-Peak human strength/speed/endurance/agility for his muscle mass, which he will maintain, but none of the extra-human stuff
-A stronger than average immune system, but in the realm of what naturally occurs in humans
-Relatively fast healing within the human realm of healing
